HIDING
=========================

:EMY'S POV:

Okay think straight big guy you need to get out of here, somewhere safe or she'll just bleed to death. She's not heavy, I can run, yeah, as long as there aren't any bullets slowing me down I should be outta here in no time.

No voices, good. I picked her up and made my way to the edge of the wall to make sure all was clear. I could feel Kya's head bounce on my shoulder as I jogged down the road cautiously. Where could I go? I should of thought about that while I was still safe in hiding. Maybe out of town was best.

After a good while my legs weren't able to run anymore. Crouching then forcing myself up with extra weight in my arms. The more tired I got the heavier she felt. Then I saw it. It was rusty, old, looked abandoned, perfect. A barn sat there in the middle of a field with no road leading to it. Oh yeah, no one owns it, the sign says so. No trespassing? Ha!

There was still hay inside and it smelled really dusty. I'll need water for Kya. Every time I look at her I want to turn back time. Those two men seemed pretty determined to catch us... Me for that matter. Their guns were on me since I woke up, not on her. But she took the bullet. Gently putting her down on the soft hay I hoped she could hear me.

"Kya?"

She opened her eyes barely half way. "..Huh..?"

"I have to leave you here for a bit. I'll get you some water."

The guilt trip was in place, right there in my gut. She's innocent. At least as far as I know. The way those guards were pointing their guns at me, she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong person. I owed her. She blocked the bullet, that was meant to hit me.

Past the trees behind the barn I could hear water flowing. I don't know how I'm going to bring the water back. Should of looked around the barn first. Crap.

At the stream there was a little bridge with a path that lead to a house far out in the distance.

'Hmm, I'm sure there's a bucket in there or something, and much more.'

Once there I found the house empty. I wasn't planning on asking for supplies if I would of ran into someone but I wasn't going to hurt anyone to get them... Who ever lived here, lived well I suppose. Lots of blankets and things I could just... borrow.. hope they don't notice. Hah, take what you can carry and go you idiot! I managed to get a hold on to 3 blankets, 2 buckets, some bread, a pillow, some tools that the buckets could carry and a knife held between my teeth.

The trip back was much longer. Good, she didn't move, and was still breathing. I nearly spilled the buckets of water before settling them down. She coughed hard from the dust in the air, made me want to cough, contagious like a yawn.

:Kya's POV:

Okay, my mouth tasted like sand. Why? But I'm so cozy. I feel like cuddling whatever I'm on and wedge deeper in it. When I opened my eyes I saw nothing. It was black. What the heck?

"Ow!" my shoulder hurt. Felt like it wasn't even there from the socket.

"Don't move." I heard Emy.

Great, this again. I don't like waking up to this memory. Why can't things be like the way they used to be?

"I can't see anything." I better not be blind.

"It's dark out. Hold on." he made a cluttering sound, swore, then a faint light became brighter and lit up everything, then he turned it down a bit.

"Where are we?"

"In some barn. No one knows we're here, can't light this too high, or for too long okay. Maybe you should go back to sleep." he said.

When I looked down my arm was in some grey wrap holding my arm from moving. Looked familiar too. Oh well would you look at that. It's his. He's missing one. And his entire shirt for that matter.. wow.. and ow! Note to self, don't move left arm.

"I took it out. Wasn't hard since you were practically out cold." Then I remembered the shots fired. He sat next to me, looking for words. I noticed I was snuggling up to the blanket under me and wrapped in another with a nice fluffy pillow.

His mouth stayed open but no sound escaped.

"Emy, what's going on?" I just want an explanation as to why my life was so great and now it's hell on a platter. And being this comfortable in soft sheets just makes me want to cry like a baby.

"I don't know. I'm as clueless as you remember?"

Yah, I forgot about that.. sort of. It felt like I've known him for a while, but it's only been, what, two days?

"Did you borrow all this stuff?" I emphasized the word 'borrow' big time with a smile.

"Just like you 'BORROWED' those coins, yah." he said it the same way but minus the smile.

I wonder what he looks like when he smiles. I let my head sink into the pillow and let my mind wander. This side of the restricted bridge wasn't as bad as I was told it was, maybe they meant outside of a village. And they left out crazy men with guns the size of my legs put together!

"You hungry?" he asked when my stomach snapped me out of my daydream.

"I guess so." I didn't have the energy to eat but the growling insisted.

He really found a place with good stuff. He had bread here, water there, tools covered in blood.. Oye. I guess that's what he used. Yah, SO glad I wasn't awake for that. They look like they could kill me all on their own.

He's frowning like he's thinking about something. Then my answer came out of his mouth.

"Who did you lose?" he asked.

I hesitated, I must of looked like I didn't know what I was talking about because he kept going.

"At the giant bridge, when you broke down, you said 'I lost them all'."

I froze. I didn't want to think about it. The images just flowed back to me like a slap in the face. My nose tingled hinting I was going to probably break down again.

".. Everyone." my voice was shaky, oh yah, I was going to cry. "My village was destroyed, and everyone in it... I don't know why." That should explain everything.

I didn't want to look up, he might ask something else and that'll be it, I won't be able to stop. Just don't look up, eat your bread.

I think he knows, because he just put his hand on my right shoulder. Couldn't help but look up, and when I did, oh geez. Sobbing with a mouth full wasn't easy. It helped to hold back though. He sat closer to me and let me lean on him.

"I think.. I lost everything too." he whispered.

True, losing your life's memory was pretty much the same, only probably much more when you can't even remember your name, age, nothing. He remembers how to read and certain things, but not his own identity. I didn't feel so alone. He's so warm, and shirtless... A little distracting, maybe in a good way. Wo wait Kya! How old is he? What's if he's like 6 years older than you? You're not a child anymore but still! Okay so it's the wrong kind of distracting. For now.. Ah shut your brain and just steal the heat he's projecting, this place ain't no paradise.

"Until you find out who you are, you've got me." Did I just say that? My mouth did it before I realized it was my voice.

He held a breath and that made me uncomfortable. Don't move away! I'm so comfortable. I need to have a chat with my mouth! Apparently it's got a mind of it's own. Do something!

"I mean..." Okay sleep time. Just pretend to faint or something.

"Yeah... That'd be nice." he said slowly, still not smiling.

Woah. Okay, that's good right? I still get to lean here? When he pulled the blanket to cover us I smiled. Then it was easier to sleep.
